nited Counties of Leeds and Grenville is rich in history dating back over 200 years. A large amount of the regionīs history can be attributed to the actions of the United Empire Loyalists who began settling in the area. After the American Revolution, a significant number of people in the United States still loyal to the crown settled in the region.

The region has been a part of Canadian history before we were officially a nation. The Counties has been witness to major events in Canadian history such as the Canada Act in 1791 forming Upper Canada, the rebellion of Upper Canada in 1837, and the British North American Act of 1867 which formed the Dominion of Canada and the province of Ontario.
