EMERGENCY ENERGY FUND
RENT BANK LOAN FUND
The Rent Bank and Emergency Energy Fund Programs have been introduced by the Province of Ontario to address homelessness by helping to create housing stability amongst low income families.
If you live in Leeds and Grenville, are behind in your rent and facing energy disconnection and/or at risk of being homeless, you may be eligible for these emergency assistance programs.
Other Emergency Contingency Funds may be available for a range of sudden and unforeseen situations affecting health or life that require immediate measures to minimize adverse consequences. Items that may be considered include:
- food,
- urgent medical needs,
- transportation,
- housing-related arrears and home repairs
not covered by other programs.
Program Guidelines
Rent Bank Fund and the Emergency Energy Fund
- Emergency Energy Funds are available to be used for energy arrears, security deposits and reconnection fees as required to maintain or reinstate service.
- Social Housing rent-geared-to-income tenants may apply for the Rent Bank Fund, however, they must show exceptional circumstances that led to the rental arrears.
- The situation must be an emergency at a crisis point.
- The applicant has demonstrated consistent attempts to maintain payments on their account and show that shelter costs are sustainable by the applicant.
- All other possible sources of funding to assist with the situation must have been exhausted.
- Applications are available only for residents of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, the City of Brockville, the Town of Prescott and Town of Gananoque.
- Applicant Household Income and Asset limits apply.
Emergency Contingency Fund
- All other sources of funding have been exhausted (OW benefits, Energy Fund, etc).
- The household gross income should not exceed $40,000/year (based on current income).
- The household asset limit should not exceed $10,000 (excluding ownership of primary residence, RESPs, RRSPs, Case Value of Life Insurance Policies, and vehicles used for employment).
- The applicant is expected to find the most economical solution.
- Assistance will not be given for items/services previously purchased.
