SYMPOSIUM EXPLORES REGION'S FUTURE REGENERATION OF SOCIAL AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING
Brockville, June 25, 2010 - More than 50 people participated today in a symposium in Brockville. The event demonstrated the depth of community support to improve the stock of affordable and social housing in the region.
Through the full-day event held at the Brockville Yacht Club, municipal leaders, community stakeholders and non-profit and private developers explored housing and community regeneration strategies. The day's speakers also discussed past affordable and social housing revitalization success stories.
Emerging from the day was a renewed resolve to collaborate as community partners and build off the momentum of past projects to further stimulate sustainable urban and community development. Through a planned, strategic approach, buildings and neighbourhoods can be rejuvenated through redeveloping, renovating and repurposing existing housing stock.
The event was organized by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH), the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville (UCLG) - Human Services Division, and the Joint Services Committee for UCLG.
