Description The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) department is responsible for providing pre-hospital, emergency medical care to all the residents of the United Counties of Leeds & Grenville. It covers over 3350 sq.kms and responds to approximately 16,000 calls a year. Leeds Grenville EMS is a division within the United Counties of Leeds & Grenville that reports to Counties' Council, as well as the Joint Services Committee which is comprised of representatives from the Counties' Council, the City of Brockville, Town of Prescott, and the Town of Gananoque.
Leeds Grenville Emergency Medical Services has seven permanent stations located throughout Leeds & Grenville, five of which are staffed 24 hours a day, providing effective emergency coverage and equal access to an ambulance for the entire county. The stations are located in Brockville (2 stations), Prescott, Spencerville, Kemptville, Elgin, Gananoque. Our fleet consits of 8 frontline ambulances, and 4 spares all of which are Crestline Fleetmax. We also operate an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) out of our Gananoque station.
Organizational Structure The management structure of Leeds Grenville EMS is comprised of a Chief, two Deputy Chiefs and four Supervisors. The service employs 49 full-time and 56 part-time primary care paramedics. All the paramedics are fully trained and meet the standard requirements of the Ontario Ambulance Act.
Training Leeds Grenville EMS conducts two Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs annually for all of the paramedic staff, in addition to the annual re-certification training program for symptom relief and defibrillation.
Leeds Grenville EMS also supports and maintains the Public Access Defibrillation program. Currently we have 58 Public Access Defibrillators in the county. All training is provided to citizens free of charge. Additionally by way of a grant through the Heart and Stroke of Ontario and the McGuinty Government we will be adding another 8 Public Access Defibrillators to our county in the fall of 2008.
Leeds Grenville EMS also supports and provides training to county and municipal fire services.
