Employment Placement (EP) is a component of Ontario Works to assist you in your job search efforts. Employment Placement attempts to match participants to paid employment opportunities, or help those interested in self-employment.
EP is for job-ready Ontario Works participants. If you are job ready and you are receiving income support from Ontario Works, you may be referred to Employment Placement by your Case Manager.
This is not a six or eight week placement. The intent is to connect EP participants with lasting employment opportunities.
You are eligible if:
- You are in receipt of income support from Ontario Works, and;
- You have been actively job searching for at least four months, and;
- You are unemployed, under-employed, or have casual/temporary employment.
You are considered job ready if:
- You have realistic employment expectations;
- Your skills and education are compatible with your employment goal;
- You are motivated to find and keep a job;
- You have a polished resume and good interview skills;
- You understand that attitude is everything.
How EP Works - Brief After a registration interview with EP staff, participants confirmed to be job ready are accepted for participation in EP and a job search strategy is explored. Participants can be registered in EP for four months. During that time you will be referred to employers who have a working relationship with EP, and to advertised openings thought to be suitable.
EP is marketed to local employers as a service that saves employer time, money and energy by referring pre-screened and suitable candidates. Where applicable, the employer may be offered a training incentive.
Participants that secure employment while registered with EP are tracked and supported through their initial return to work. Those not successful in EP, return to their Case Manager to determine other options for Ontario Works participation.
EP is set up to help you help yourself. While EP will make efforts to find you employment, it is ultimately up to you to get the job.
EP Participant Expectations As a participant registered in Employment Placement you are expected to:
- Follow up on all referrals for employment made by EP staff.
- Inform the EP staff of any outcomes from referrals or recommendations about job opportunities.
- Report monthly all job search activities including your own job search efforts beyond referrals made by the EP staff, and interviews.
- Accept reasonable offers of employment and document any reasons for not accepting an offer of employment.
- Notify EP staff of any change in your availability, particularly the acceptance of any employment opportunity.
- Attend any workshops or sessions relating to job search skills recommended by the EP staff.
- Make use of the Employment Resource Centre nearest you to assist you with your job search efforts, including resume preparation, company research, access to HRDC job bank, access to computers, photocopy and fax services, and employment counseling.
- Contact EP staff for support and suggestions about retaining employment as required once employed.
