The Limerick Forest Office of Public Works is responsible for the management of 5788 ha of forest. The Forest Manager and Forest Technician work closely with the Limerick Forest Advisory Committee which is comprised of Community Volunteers.
Limerick Forest itself is an area of public land owned and managed by the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville. It is comprised of 175 separate compartments of land, half of which are located in two main tracts, the remainder are located in smaller parcels throughout the Counties.
Limerick Forest consists of conifer plantations established in the 1940īs and 1950īs on abandoned farmland, unspoiled wetlands and second growth natural forests. Today, the forest is being managed for its ecological values, recreational and educational opportunities and for the production of jobs and revenue. |
