The Eligibility Review Officers (ERO) are responsible for investigating all fraud complaints. Depending on the severity of the fraud committed, the Eligibility Review Officer may present a recommendation to the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville Community and Social Services Division Fraud Committee to forward the case to the Brockville Police Department or Ontario Provincial Police for criminal charges.
In instances where the decision is made to proceed with legal action, the Eligibility Review Officer works with the Crown Prosecutor’s office and represents the United Counties of Leeds & Grenville in Court.
The ERO is also responsible for the collection of overpayments incurred as a result of investigations and of terminated cases with overpayment balances. This is usually achieved by negotiating a repayment agreement however, in some cases, legal action such as garnishment through Small Claims Court may be pursued.
